A lovely, vintage church cookbook from 1940, this is from the Morrow Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church in Maplewood, New Jersey. And it's the second edition! That means many of these recipes may be close to 100 years old!
This book extra charming because it is hand-written by the contributors. And it's sprinkled with pen & ink line drawings on many of the pages, and local advertising from the time which is always so much fun to look at. And then, of course, the recipes themselves range from the everyday to special holiday treats such as Mrs. Henry Smithers' Upside Down Coffee Cake to Florence McLoughlin's Mexican Chilaly to Helen Blough's Pineapple Fudge. (Yes, Pineapple Fudge.)
We love community cookbooks because they represent the hard work of caring people coming together around a common cause. And, let's face it. When you know your neighbors are going to be reading this, you're going to contribute your best recipe!
